Part I... 8pm

Debussy Cello Sonata in D minor

Canat de Chizy Exctracts from Formes du Vent for solo cello

Saint-Saens Clarinet Sonata op.167

INTERVAL

Aperghis Récitation 9 for vocalist

Couperin a selection from Pièces de Clavecin

Fauré Trio op.120

Clarinettist & vocalist Carl Rosman, Cellist Christina Waldock and pianist Mark Knoop join forces to present this eclectic programme of French music throughout the ages. They will take you on an epic journey from the ornate Baroque style of Couperin's keyboard works to Aperghis' almost Dada-ist Récitation, stopping off at various points in between.

Three substantial works frame the programme: Debussy's cello sonata is infused with jazz & flamenco idioms - at times passionate, urbane, quixotic... Saint Saens' clarinet sonata op 167 is much more romantic, and Fauré's trio op120 is fluidly impressionistic, taking the listener through a whole landscape of harmonic sumptuousness.
